Following on the heels of its sold out, four-run 1970s tribute show, the May 26 premiere at Glasgow Square Theatre will feature 40 billboard hits from the 1960s - the decade when rock ‘n roll, civil rights, and flower power all came of age. The ‘60s were revolutionary times, and the social and cultural transformation was taking place on the streets, in homes, and on the radio.

With the British Invasion, acts like the Beatles and Rolling Stones reinterpreted American soul and R&B. While American acts like Aretha Franklin, James Brown and Otis Redding were heating up stages and enjoying huge commercial success. Rock matured and developed a more eclectic and international sound. Meanwhile, Johnny Cash became one of the most influential musicians of the decade, with his genre-bending country music that was full of compassion for everyone from minorities to prison inmates and the working class.

Pictou County Pop Classics has established itself as a musical teleportation experience, with the ability to take audiences right back to the best parts of the decade being celebrated. Get ready to be transported back to the ‘60s - but don’t hesitate, tickets go fast!

Audience members are encouraged to join in by coming in costume for a chance to win a prize.

Non- licensed.

Carmel Mikol "Daughter of a Working Man" Album Release with Special Guest EB Anderson

Available May 1st, Daughter of a Working Man is Carmel Mikol's third album and first solo release in five years. As a songwriter, Mikol has a diverse roster of co-writes from “Ooh Love,” a Canadian Top-10 single by platinum-selling pop artist Ria Mae, to Juno-nominated Inspirational-pop singer Chelsea Amber, to blues artist John Campbelljohn.

Mikol's two previous albums won the Grand Prize in the Folk Category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and Great American Song Contest, received three East Coast Music Award nominations, and charted in the Top Ten on the Canadian Earshot Folk charts. She has performed alongside Canadian folk greats Amelia Curran, Rose Cousins, and David Francey through extensive touring and appearances at festivals across North America.

Daughter of a Working Man is a folk record dressed up in strings, electronic effects, and textured vocals. True to the lyric-driven songwriting and storytelling Mikol is known for, the songs swing elegantly between deeply personal stories and broader issues of social inequality and injustice.
